Dear Art,

Several months ago, I purchased a solid 14"x 12"x 3" piece of Black Walnut from you. My idea was to hand carve a heart shaped jewlery box that would also serve as the ring box for my girlfriends engagement ring. With no woodworking experience aside of what I had learned in middle school (9 years ago, I am now 25) I decided to embark on a new adventure. It was extremely difficult to stick to my "no power tools rule" but I did end up using two (a band saw and drill press). Alas attached are photos of my finished piece, soon to be given to my wonderful girlfriend, as soon as the leaves are fully changed here in Wisconsin!

Hi Art, I don't know whether you are the Art I spoke with on the phone or not, but I would like to tell you how astonished I am with the beauty of the wood sent. I guess I had only seen eastern walnut in the past because this is far nicer than I imagined. The colors and figure of some of the pieces are truly astonishing. The defects in the pieces will be easy, I think, to work around. I am very anxious to begin the chairs... after I complete my current project.

Thank you for your thorough help. I was hesitant to order initially without first seeing the wood, but you made it all quite simple.
